Buying a Digital Camera: Look Before You Leap

Buying a Digital Camera can be a scary situation if you are not sure what to look for.  Digital cameras come in all sizes and shapes.  The features and options from one camera to another can vary quite a lot, although many carry the same.  The first thing you have to take into consideration before you choose a camera is, what are your needs and expectations.  Do you need a cameral that will be needed for complicated shots or just a simple point-and-shoot, to take pictures of your kids and the dog.

One of the most important items you will have to consider is how many mega-pixels will you need.  The amount of detail the camera can capture is measured in mega-pixels.  If you run down to the grocery store you can pick up a simple, inexpensive digital camera with around 3 mega-pixels and that would be more than sufficient to take pictures of the kids.  However, if you desire to take awesome photos with a digital camera with many options and features then you will want to seek a higher class camera.  One with more mega-pixels to start with.  A top of the line camera will have 7 to 8 mega-pixels.  It will cost you a lot more money.

Some other features to look for are how big is the LCD screen.  A good camera will have a 2 inch screen.  You want to check to see what the cameras optical zoom is.  Some cameras come with customizable settings, some don’t.  You can get compact cameras or cameras that are a little more bulky.  A few cameras have the new vibrating filter that helps to eliminate dust from your images.  The list goes on and on.

You have to choose a camera which can meet your expectations.  You have to look at your price range, and what options will fit into it.  You have to find a camera that will fit into your personal lifestyle.  Always check a camera, to see what options it has and what features it may offer for the money.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions.  That’s the only way you will know for sure what you are buying.

Help answer the question about digital camera for kids

Is my 2 and a 1/2 yr old too young for a kids digital camera?
My son is 2 1/2 years old. He loves to look at the LCD screen on the back of my camera after I take a picture. I was considering buying one of those kid tough digital cameras for christmas. I know there are a couple different brands out there. The ages on most of them say 3 yrs and up. Do you think this is an okay toy for a 2 1/2 year old? Am I wasting my money? Thanks everyone :)
